目前進行的研究計畫有下面兩個方向。
第一、試著將先前進行的現代中醫史納入世界科學史（與醫學史）的脈絡中，並探索它的可能意義。
第二、以痰這個具體的「物質」為中心，從而重新檢視科學史（與醫學史）中常被視為當然的現代性斷裂。這個計畫既不將「痰」視為一種思想概念，也不將它視為與概念無關的物質。相反地，我將致力於考掘出痰的多重身份--醫學概念、物質實體、身體感受、精神狀態、治療藥物/食物、衛生實作、日常器物、身份表徵、情感反應、 倫理價值等，而這些身份又與當年的中西醫論爭與「衛生現代性」緊密相關。透過凸顯出多重身份的痰所涉及的多重網路與爭議，我將致力於考掘出斷裂的表象之下多層次的歷史轉化過程。
